Pictorial of Indulgence

May 20, 2015

After my recent trip to Malaysia and indulgence in the rich and often meaty dishes of my childhood, I had been craving something a little lighter, a little fresher. I miss salads and my daily green smoothie of greens and fruits. Son came home from college to celebrate my birthday. Daughter was ready to eat out after cooking for herself while we were gone. We vacillate between eating healthy and indulging. Now that son's college semester is over and he is back in town, expect us to do more damage. Ha, ha. Here's a pictorial rundown of some of the dishes we ate this month.
Carne Asada and Adobada taco from Tacos EL Poblano

They wanted Mee Hoon Kuih, so.......

Home made Spaghetti and meatball with garlic bread

Then we went on a Ramen kick.... Underbelly and Rakiraki being our favourite Ramen joints.
Buns @ Underbelly, Hillcrest San Diego
Tempura eggplant, Shiitake and enoki mushrooms, cilantro and spicy mayo

Belly of the Beast Ramen @ Underbelly, Hillcrest San Diego
Soft boiled eggs, Oxtail dumplings, Smoked brisket, Hoisin glazed short ribs.

Soft boiled eggs, Char Siew belly, Applewood smoke bacon, Korobuta sausage.

Tonkatsu Ramen and Soft Shell Crab roll @ Rakiraki, Convoy San Diego

Tofu Don with Soft Shell Crab roll at Rakiraki, Convoy San Diego

Home cooked Lamb Loin chops with spinach, pear, avocado, tomatoes and  walnuts.

Home cooked grilled salmon with balsamic glaze, grilled soft tofu with sesame crust, served over quinoa with steamed haricot verts, patty squash and tomatoes.

We were craving some seafood, so I made a prawn with pineapple Assam curry with lemongrass, Kaffir Lime (Limau Perut )leaves and Chen Hong/ Laksa leaves from the garden.

Home made grilled prawns, pan fried tofu, over couscous with guacamole, grilled corn and egg omelet shreds, over quinoa

Obviously, I made a lot more dishes at home but did not take pictures. Somehow, when you are dining out, all you have to do is take picture and indulge. At home, it is the scramble of getting things to be plate and table and taking pictures flies out the window!

I leave with a picture of the beautiful succulent garden outside Underbelly.

And what we saw when we finished our bowl of Underbelly Ramen
